ZUEL-SUR School of Law and Economics

ZUEL-SUR School of Law and Economics (LES) was co-founded by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and was approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in April 2022. It is the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in China in the field of law and economics. Its predecessor (Sino-Itlian Institute) was the first Sino-Itlian higher education cooperation unit established after Italy announced its support for the “Belt and Road” initiative. Master’s degrees in LES can be divided into two categories, namely the double degrees program and the single degree program, with a total of 4 majors. The former includes two majors of Law and Economics and Digital Economics and Law；the latter covers two majors of Comparative and European Law and Cognitive Forensic Science.

Founded in 1303, Sapienza University of Rome is one of the oldest universities in the world. Its research in law, economics, medicine, etc., is at world-class level, ranking 43th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings for Law Subjects. The University has trained many famous politicians, lawyers, judges, including Sergio Mattarella, the current president of Italy, and Franco Modigliani, Nobel Laureate in Economics.

Zhongnan University of Economics and Law is an institution of higher education directly under the Ministry of Education with economics, law and management as its main disciplines. It is a national key university of Project 211 and 985 Project Innovation Platform. It is in the list of world-class university and first-class disciplines (referred to as “Double first-class” initiative). For more than 70 years, the university has trained more than 400000 students of all levels and types for the country, and a large number of graduates have become the backbone of political, academic and business circles.

Since 2016, relying on the cooperation of the field of law, Sapienza University of Rome and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law have charted a new route of international cooperation in the field of law, economics, forensic sciences, etc. They have jointly held international academic conferences, professional scholar and student exchange projects, and have made major breakthroughs in organizational construction. At present, the universities’ “all-round cooperation pattern” has comprehensively improved the international exchange and cooperation capabilities within the international sphere.
