Oliviero Diliberto elected as dean of the Law Faculty of the Sapienza University, Rome

The former ministry of justice, member of the parliament and currently roman law full professor and Italian president of the Sino-Italian institute of the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Professor Oliviero Diliberto, has been elected, by a landslide, dean of the Law Faculty of the Sapienza University. The faculty, among its professors, includes several figures internationally renowned and its scientific production has a constant impact over the academic landscape in Italy and Europe. Over the years, it has trained many professors, judges and political figures, to the point that it has been nicknamed as the “cradle of jurists” and the “cradle of politicians”. On the basis of a secular inheritance and academic tradition, the Faculty aims at providing high-level education and research opportunities and is constantly devoted to the establishment of a high-quality academic environment.


Prof. Oliviero Diliberto has been ministry of justice of the Italian Republic, Secretary of the Party of Italian Communists, member of the parliament for four terms. He is currently full professor of Roman Law (and now dean of the Law Faculty), Italian dean of the Sino-Italian institute of the ZUEL, Director of the High-Level Training Course in Roman Law, Wenlan Professor of the ZUEL, Director of the Sino-Italian centre for legal studies, Honorary President of the Tuscan bibliographical society, member of the scientific committee of the journal “Annali del Seminario Giuridico dell’Università di Palermo”, member of the scientific committee of the “Bibliothèque Volterra” at the Ecole Française de Rome, member of the scientific committee of the journal “Notariato. Bimestrale di dottrina, giurisprudenza e tecniche contrattuali”, member of the scientific council of “Ravenna Caput Occidentis. Centro Internazionale di Studi sulla Tarda Antichità”, founding member of the “Florentine academy of papirology and ancient world studies”, founding member of the “Comitato Nazionale per l’edizione delle lettere di Theodor Mommsen agli italiani”. He published over ninety papers in internationally renowned journals, as well as several relevant monographies. His works have been adopted as materials for the study of Roman law in several internationally renowned universities. His main research interests include Roman law and ancient western law.
