Art. 1 - Grants of the Sino-Italian Institute for scientific research

The Sino-Italian Institute, born from the academic cooperation between the Sapienza University of Rome and the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law of Wuhan, promotes and supports research projects of young researchers and research projects of high scientific relevance.


Art. 2 - Evaluation Committee

The proposal for grants are evaluated by the Research Committee of the Sino-Italian Institute, which formulates, for each proposal evaluated positively, a final grant proposal by assigning a score from 1 to 10.

The Commission evaluates the proposals according to the criteria currently employed in the international scientific community and drafts a final graded list, including the amounts of the grants admitted.

The list will be published online on the website of the Sino-Italian Institute: http://zyxy-en.zuel.edu.cn/main.htm.


Art. 3 - Available funding

Each research project is financed with an amount equal to 30,000 Yuan. The funding is issued in accordance with the Implementation Measures for the Management of Scientific Research Projects of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. 15,000 yuan will be issued when the project is established, and the rest will be issued afterthe presentation of the works resulting from the research (Art. 8).The works that receive an "excellent" rated by the Research Committee will be awarded an additional funding of 20,000 Yuan as a reward. All amounts indicated are pre-tax amounts.


Art. 4 - Research topics

The research projects eligible for funding will cover one of the following thematic areas:

    - Roman law roots of the Chinese civil code;

    - Environmental protection in a comparative perspective;

    - Research on Torts law in a comparative perspective;

    - The legal protection of personal data;

    - The legal aspects of the fight against climate change;

    - New Frontiers of International law;

    - Research on Monetary obligations.


Art. 5 - Eligible subjects and composition of research groups

The research projects are presented by groups composed by oneor more researchers. The international composition of the research group is a preferential criterion.

The applications as investigators o members of a research group may be presented by the professors, the researchers, the research fellows, the PhD and the PhD students of the Sapienza University of Rome, the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and the Sino-Italian Institute.

The person in charge of the research project must hold the title of PhD.

Only one application per person may be presented. The candidates may be part of only one project.


Art. 6 - Applications and deadlines

The applications for grant shall be sent by e-mail, to the address: zhongyi@zuel.edu.cn, from december 7, 2021 to december 22, 2021.


Contents of the application

Each applicant must declare, in his/her application, under his/her responsability and under penalty of exclusion from the procedure, the following information:

   1. Surname and name;

   2. Place and date of birth;

   3. Citizenship;

   4. Place of residence;

   5. Domicile (if different from the residence);

   6. Valid telephone contact, preferably cellphone;

   7. Valid e-mail address;

   8. Academic affiliation and position;

   9. Consent to personal and sensible data treatment by the Sino-Italian Institute.


To each application, furthermore, the following must be attached:

   a. A copy of a valid identity document;

   b. A curriculum vitae, dated and signed, detailing the professional and scientific activity;

   c. The titles deemed useful for the procedure included in a dated and signed list;

   d. A list of scientific publications already published at the expiry date of the call, included in a numbered list, dated and signed and with the indications, for each publication, of the authors, the publishing house, the date and place of publication or the title, number of volume where the publication is included and the corresponding year;

   eProject and members of the research group. The research project, in Italian or English, must have a maximum length of two pages, including bibliography.


Art. 7 - Evaluation of scientific quality of the applicants’ profile and the proposals

The Research Committee evaluates the proposals on the basis of the CV of the applicant, of his/her scientific production, on the coherence of the project with regard to the topics listed in Art. 4.


Art. 8 - Reporting of the research projects

The projects must be concluded within 12 months from the date the first part of funds will be made available.

The research outputs must be the object of at least one scientific publication, which must be sent for publication in a volume by the Italian-Chinese Institute, together with the outputs of the other research groups adhering to this announcement. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the scientific outputs may also be presented for publication in other locations, however the authors must explicitly refer to the Italian-Chinese Institute which funded the research.


Art. 9 - Publicity of the Call

This call and the results of the evaluation procedure will be published on the website of the Sino-Italian Institute, at the address: http://zyxy-en.zuel.edu.cn/main.htm.

Art. 11 - Personal data processing

The processing of personal data for this procedure is regulated by the General Regulation of the European Union on data protection (Reg. UE 2016/679 of the EU Parliament and the Council of 27 April 2016 – GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation), by the Personal Information Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China and by the relevant Italian laws and regulations.

Pursuant to Art. 13 of the GDPR the candidates are informed that the processing of personal data communicated with the applications will be carried out in compliance with the principles of Art. 5 of the GDPR and, in particular, the provisions and principles of fairness and privacy protection, exclusively for the purposes of the procedure of evaluation of projects and the management of this call, under responsibility and care of the people in charge of the selection procedure, as well as by the examining committee, through the use of electronic procedures, within the means and limits necessary for pursuing the aforementioned purposes.

The candidates have rights referred to in Art. 15 and following of the GDPR and, in particular, the right to access their personal data (if the relevant conditions are satisfied), the right to ask for their rectification, cancellation (if such cancellation does not violate the applicable rules on the conservation of data and with regard to the necessity of protecting, in case of judicial disputes, the Institute and the personnel who processed the data) or the limitation of the processing. They have also the right to oppose the processing of data. Those who deem that the processing of their personal data violates the GDPR have the right to file a complaint to the Italian Data Protection Authority or before the competent tribunals, according to the applicable rules.

The data will be stored, in paper or digital format, for the time necessary to the achievement of the aforementioned purposes, in compliance with the Italian, European and Chinese law.

Art. 12 - Right of revocation

The Sino-Italian Institute reserves the right to revoke the call, to suspend or postpone the evaluation procedures, to modify, until the date of the approval of the final graded list, the available resources, to suspend the financing of projects due to necessities which are currently not foreseeable nor evaluable.
